The sellers that offer branded items but second handed are even more today. For this reason,  eBay Authenticate was launched. This is a way to verify the counterfeit of products. eBay has understood that the users are reluctant to higher-end transactions, but with this program they are able to trust the shops and buy without worries.

A program useful for the clients but also for the seller. The seller in this way can increase their level of trust and, as a consequence, increase their saler. The buyer are protected and refounded in case of counterfeit item.

How does the eBay Authenticate program work?

The project will start in the next months with fashion and its expensive brands. Successively, it will be extended to the other categories.

Apart from the top-rated affidability badge, a new symbol will appear to signal the sellers that want to participate to this project. These sellers will offers a guarantee of authentication to their buyer. eBay has a new team of professional certifier that will give the eBay authenticate certification.

When a seller will add a product, he will have the opportunity to enable the service of product’s authentication, in the online listing then a message will appear in order to inform the customer of the possibility to examine the product before the shipping.  At the moment of the purchase of the product, the inspection will start and after the convalidation this product will be sent. If the client had to receive a fake product, eBay will provide to refund the buyer with an amount equal to the double price of the product.

It is not yet clear if this procedure is enabled at every purchase - we hope that this will not happen because the time will become longer - or spot check.

Both the seller  and the buyer will have to pay for this service, but eBay has not specified yet the prices. This service is first launched in the United States and then it will spread in the rest of the world.
